An 18 year old Korean male student left for Turkey on the 8th and was reported missing on the 12th. His parents let him go with a family friend to chaperone. He was last seen leaving his hotel near the Syria border line two days after his arrival. A Turkish news outlet reported that he might be involved with the IS and that he was in contact with the IS on the internet. Other reports claim that he had a pen pal in Turkey.

1. [+6,167, -120] If this is true, he's so immature. Did he think the IS would be like those spy movies... There are so many who come back disappointed. Just take that interest and go join the army or something... you're just going to end up doing field work over there anyway.

2. [+5,209, -80] He's so immature, how is he so fearless?..

3. [+4,487, -70] I sincerely hope that his involvement with the IS is a lie...

4. [+4,381, -77] I feel so bad for his parents...

5. [+938, -61] All that IS talk is just what the Turkish are saying. We don't actually know yet if he's missing or not. Maybe he really did go to Turkey just to visit his pen pal and somehow got kidnapped. We don't know anything yet.

6. [+856, -21] It's hard for me to believe that an 18 year old got involved with the IS. He was probably kidnapped... If it's true, though, that's such a shock...

7. [+790, -20] What if the Turkish are just bringing the IS up in case the kid is found dead or he was actually kidnapped and they don't want to be responsible for it? How can they be so sure he wasn't kidnapped? He had a pen pal there, why is IS talk even being brought up? And why was he reported missing two days after he actually went missing?

8. [+784, -27] He went to meet a pen pal friend. There's a big chance that he got kidnapped by the IS and is being held hostage by them. I really hope he comes back alive.

Article: "Korean teen missing in Turkey, he had a penpal there"

1. [+334, -15] He's still a teen kid, what were they thinking sending him all the way to Turkey, even if it's with an adult...

2. [+257, -5] I really hope he's not with the IS, please return home safely

3. [+216, -4] I hope that this young student makes his way back home safely

4. [+29, -2] No need to blame the parents, I'm sure they're already spending sleepless nights in guilt. He's 18 years old, he's an adult and if he really wanted to go, there was probably no way his parents could've convinced him otherwise. His parents did the best they could by sending an adult with him. There's no point in putting blame, just support the family so that he comes home safe.

5. [+28, -5] Why don't they find that pen pal and investigate him... I'm surprised his parents even let him go all the way to Turkey when he's just a kid.

6. [+25, -2] I live in Turkey and had no idea about this until my mom called me and asked if I was okay. Logically, any tourist visiting here would not go where he did. They'd either vacation around Turkey or Egypt. Tourists also get a text from the foreign office between 10 to 10:30 am saying it's dangerous to be on the Syrian border so leave immediately. I don't think he simply 'disappeared'. He went missing in a place that takes 11 hours with several plane and bus transfers. I've lived in Turkey for three years and have been around everywhere but even the Turkish don't go where he was. I think there's a connection between him and that pen pal, even if it isn't necessarily the IS...

7. [+14, -1] Heard that in Turkey, they'll act like pen pals but they're really involved with the IS and try to kidnap you.

8. [+13, -0] Hopefully they investigate that pen pal
