Newsen screws up big time

I originally wasn't going to take requests for articles relating to Cool's Yuri and the actual victim because I felt that it wasn't a topic to be discussed, but a reader asked for focus on the grave mistake Korean media outlets made tonight and I think the issue needs to be brought to attention.

As you've probably read by now, Korean reporters jumped to conclusions and released several reports claiming that Cool's Yuri had been murdered after a fight broke out at a store. Several minutes later, it was actually revealed to be the former wife of Kim Sung Soo.

Follow-up reports were made to rectify the misreports, but of course, Newsen being the model media outlet we all know them to be, went a step further by sending a reporter out to the hospital the late victim is resting in.

They then released an article with a picture of the funeral processions list, showing the full name of not only the victim, but her daughter and other family members, as well as the exact location of her wake. Not only that, but other wakes were listed on the chart and it wasn't until netizens demanded that the picture be taken down that Newsen blurred out the names, still keeping the article up.

You can probably guess netizen responses to this issue. Many noted down the name of the journalist and the outlet that originally released the misreport (No Cut News) and many are fuming angry about the way this was handled.

One netizen that pretty much sums up majority opinion online: "Are the journalists crazy or what? They're so blinded by their desire to release breaking news first that they don't even bother to check facts with the company before releasing false information and subsequently killing a living person overnight. And how in the world do they think that uploading a picture of the full name and even their family members' names okay when that person was not even a celebrity but merely the former wife of a celebrity? It wasn't until we demanded that it be taken down that they mosaiced the names. Do they think that releasing articles is all about being first? I really want to swear at all of the idiots that release reports without even double checking. In the past, journalists were known for being smart and their profession was revered, but now they're no better than any junior high school kid dic*ing around on the internet. They're all so blinded by exclusives and breaking news..."
